don’t Flash me with that Quark in your Acrobat!
So my wife and I just purchased the fifth season of The Office. We are both huge fans of the show and we officially own all the seasons there are to own. While we were enjoying all our favorite episodes from season 5, I caught this gem of a dialog from episode 7.
Pam: I just talked to my advisor. [I’m] failing!
Jim: Wow, I thought you were good at Flash.
Pam: I was… then they switched to Acrobat just as I was learning Quark.
This is one crazy class! I don’t remember any class that taught both animation / interactivity via Flash AND print design. Nor have I ever heard of replacing Acrobat for Quark (at least not on any professional level).
I took the liberty to rewrite this scene. Here is my version. This makes me feel a little better….
Pam: I just talked to my advisor. [I’m] failing!
Jim: Wow, I thought you were good at Quark.
Pam: I was… then they switched to InDesign just as I was learning Quark.
Jim: That’s unfortunate. I am really sorry to hear that. Although… they really should have been teaching you both.
Pam: I have to stay and take the class over again.
All better.
Glenn Beck Fear Mongering Hour: Gov’t Octopus Website Takes Over Your Computer Forever
“They are jumping right inside you, seizing all of your personal and private information.”
“They can continue to track you, basically forever once they’ve tapped into your system. The government, of course, has like malware systems and tracking cookies and they can tap in anytime they want.”
“Can you believe that? I mean seriously, they get all your information.”
“…can legally listen to your phone call. It can check out what websites you’re searching.”
“It’s like an octopus that keeps regenerating tentacles every five seconds.”
Antitrust - exciting code (via dodke)
In the 13 years that I’ve written/read code, not once have I ever uttered either of the following two phrases:
“The compression is awesome.”
“The structure is perfect.”
So, is it like a USB dongle?
“[Anna Friel] once installed a ‘Google alert’ on her home computer in a bid to keep up-to-date on press cuttings featuring her name - having every article about her automatically sent to her email inbox. But Friel admits she had to get rid of [the] device when she started worrying about critical remarks.”
